SUMMARY:Co-Creating Policy Recommendations for a Rural Bioeconomy
DESCRIPTION:On 27 May 2026\, seven EU-funded initiatives will join forces for a high-level event held in Brussels and online. Titled “Co-Creating Policy Recommendations for a Rural Bioeconomy\,” this gathering seeks to bridge the existing gap between local innovation and European policymaking. The effort brings together 7 Standing Liaison Round Table (SLRT) projects\, namely BBioNets\, Soil-X-Change\, AQUAGRI-KNOW\, BRILIAN\, C4B\, Rural BioReFarmeries\, and SOUL\, in a joint mission to transform regional insights into a unified strategic vision. \nA Strategic Framework for Rural Innovation \nDesigned as a “Policy Lab\,” the event will create a dynamic space to share technical data and on-the-ground experiences\, with a view to translating them into concrete recommendations. This mission has gained increased urgency following the introduction of the new European Bioeconomy Strategy. By pooling the expertise of seven distinct consortia\, the sessions will focus on four primary objectives: \nSynthesising Multi-Project Evidence: Consolidate cross-border findings on sustainable resource management and bio-based value chains into actionable strategic insights aligned with the new European bioeconomy framework.\nIdentifying Systemic Barriers: Evaluate the opportunities and challenges faced by EIP-AGRI Operational Groups\, while simultaneously pinpointing the regulatory implications arising from the new European Bioeconomy Strategy that affect the scaling of bio-based initiatives.\nCo-designing Actionable Policy: Utilise a “Policy Lab” environment to transform technical implementation data into concrete recommendations for EU and regional decision-makers.\nBridging the Research-Policy Gap: Facilitate direct dialogue between practitioners\, EIP-AGRI Operational Groups\, bio-based value chain actors\, and institutional stakeholders to ensure local realities inform a unified Policy Roadmap. \nTransforming Insights into Action \nThe day will open with a plenary session dedicated to aligning the strategic goals of the seven consortia. A keynote address from the EU CAP Network Support Facility will set the stage for the morning\, followed by a series of strategic insights from the participating projects and an introduction to the “Policy Lab” methodology. \nThe programme will then transition into specialised working groups. One group will explore Sustainable Resource Management\, examining how EIP-AGRI Operational Groups act as catalysts for soil\, water\, and biomass valorisation. Simultaneously\, a second group will examine Regulatory Frameworks and Value Chains\, debating the legislative shifts required to foster fair rural business models and a cooperative green biorefinery sector. \nThe journey will conclude with a Multi-Actor Roundtable. High-level representatives from the CBE-JU\, EIP-AGRI\, and other funding bodies will validate the findings\, ensuring that the consolidated evidence reaches the heart of European decision-making. \nParticipation and Registration \nTo maintain a productive environment for the co-creation of the Policy Roadmap\, physical attendance is by invitation only. Direct invitations have been issued to project partners and specific policy stakeholders to ensure a focused\, high-level dialogue on-site. \nHowever\, the wider bioeconomy community is warmly invited to participate as Digital Delegates. Online attendees will have full access to the live-streamed plenary sessions\, the strategic project insights\, and the final synthesis roundtable where the roadmap will be validated.

SUMMARY:Policy event: Forest bioeconomy and the alignment of multiple policy objectives
DESCRIPTION:How can we implement and refine EU policies impactfully and coherently towards multiple societal gains? How does new scientific knowledge integrate into bioeconomy and climate governance in the knowledge valorisation framework? \nNatural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) together with UNITE Flagship and FinnCERES\, are organising a policy event in Brussels on 5 May 2026\, at 9:15-12:45. \nThe event addresses the questions above with presentations and interaction covering value chains from sustainable primary production to ecoefficient bio-based products. We look at forest data management\, carbon-related policies\, restoration regulation\, and natural hazards as well as new bio-based materials and upscaling of resource-scarcity solutions. \nThe event is organized at the Helsinki EU Office (Rue Guimard 7\, Brussels). Following the event\, a networking light lunch will be offered. We would be pleased to have you join us for further discussion and exchange. We kindly invite you to register your participation via the link below. We look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Webinar: Fully utilising a bioresource
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explore fisheries and aquaculture – two marine-based industries at very different stages of development\, each facing distinct challenges and opportunities. It will also explore approaches to more complete and efficient use of biological resources across both sectors. \nThrough a series of short expert presentations followed by a structured debate\, we will examine how marine resources are currently perceived and how research and innovation can support their more sustainable and efficient utilisation. By directly comparing traditional fisheries with the rapidly evolving aquaculture sector\, the session will offer valuable insights into future pathways for both industries.

SUMMARY:6th South East European Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy\, Water and Environment Systems
DESCRIPTION:The 6th South East European Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy\, Water and Environment Systems (SEE SDEWES) is dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge on methods\, policies and technologies for increasing the sustainability of development by de-coupling growth from the use of natural resources and by a transition to a knowledge-based economy. All taking into account the economic\, environmental and social pillars of sustainable development. \nOne of the main issues of the coming decades is to improve efficiencies by integrating various life-supporting systems\, using excess from one\, as resource in another in the correct moment. Integrating electricity\, heating\, cooling\, transport\, water\, buildings\, waste\, wastewater\, industry\, forestry and agriculture systems will be pivotal towards sustainable development. \nSustainability being also a perfect field for interdisciplinary and multi-cultural evaluation of complex system\, the SDEWES Conference has become a significant venue for researchers in those areas to meet\, and originate\, discuss\, share\, and disseminate new ideas.
